Cold Calling Is Still A Relevant And Needed Skill!
Yes, In 2025 It Is Still A Potential Winning Strategy To Generate New Business And To Make You More Resilient
Yesterday I ran a workshop in the Group Training Program on cold calling.
Yes... the dreaded cold calling!
Something many of us have never done, others think is beneath us or a relic of the past!
I cold called for 18 months in 2020-21 (6 months of that it was 90% of my day) so I know that world well.
I did a lot of dedicated training on it too as I wasn't great at all when I began.
Whilst I don't cold call right now, I would do it again for the right opportunity and need.
To me it's an essential skillset and mountain to climb in being a total and complete sales pro.
Why is it still relevant in 2025?
Well people do still pick up the phones!
And it is still a way to cut through and get directly to your target market.
Yes, when you cold call 90% of the 100 dials you make probably go nowhere (no answer, voice mail, they hang up on you in the first 5 seconds)...
But you don't do it for those 90%...
In fact you have to embrace said 90% as the next part - the 10% - doesn't exist without it!
Yes, you do it for the 10% where you do have proper conversations.
And from that 10% maybe half book over to next steps.
And from that batch half again become a client.
So yeah, 100 dials and maybe 1-2 sales from it.
But that's the game!
And if those 1-2 sales are 10K each and you're making 30% (that's another bonus as full stack - you generate the lead, nurture it and then close it - you get a way higher commission!).
30% of 20K = 6K earnings for your days work / working those 100 cold leads.
That's both a great day earnings and a productive use of your time!
And yes, that world still exists!
And when you conquer that world you will always have a "break glass" emergency plan if the world of inbound / marketing generating leads stops existing or stops being attractive to you.
You can go out and find your own leads and eventually sell to some of them which makes you more resilient, capable and anti-fragile!
