Be Curious Yes! But... You Don't Have To Tell Them That!
Get More Creative In Your Questioning Approach And Watch The Call Open Up!
I’m very curious.
However I near never tell you that directly in the way I ask you a question.
What do I mean?
Starting a question with "I'm curious...".
Ie - "I'm curious, why do you say that?".
That's become a pretty popular questioning approach in recent times I've noticed.
Maybe throw 1 or even 2 into a call and it can be ok.
But throwing 5-10+ in and it being your near default approach I'm very much against (and I do see this out there!) as it just feels contrived to me and there are better alternatives.
In fact, I'd try to avoid 5-10+ uses of any buzz words or word combinations on a sales call.
And that includes popular words like "why" ("why is that?") and "feel" ("how does that make you feel?").
There are many creative ways - where it feels more subtle, natural and conversational - to cover the territory the mentioned words I avoid in this post reference.
And said alternative approaches have it feel less like a pre planned interview / interrogation and much more like an open, dynamic, customized and well intended exploratory conversation.
And that, appeals to the prospects self interest!
It appeals to mine too (as I get better connection, less resistance, depth of answers and more truth!).
